Tim Cook has transitioned from his role as Apple’s chief executive to the position of executive chair, receiving a compensation package valued at approximately $47 million. This package includes a base salary of $2 million alongside $45 million awarded in shares. Notably, half of these stock awards are connected to specific performance objectives, while the remainder will vest over a four-year period.
With Cook moving into his new role, he has passed the CEO baton to John Ternus. Ternus, a seasoned executive at Apple who previously led hardware engineering, will now steer the company’s product strategy and oversee operations as CEO. His compensation reflects his new responsibilities, comprising a $3 million base salary and a $55 million stock award, with a significant portion of this package also being performance-based.
During Cook’s tenure as CEO, his compensation surpassed $74 million in 2025. Under his leadership, Apple witnessed significant growth in its market value, which soared to approximately $4.7 trillion. As executive chair, Cook will now direct his efforts towards external affairs, particularly focusing on Apple’s interactions with governments and policymakers, as well as nurturing its relationships in key international markets.
Ternus takes the helm at a pivotal time for Apple, bringing his extensive experience and insights from his previous role as head of hardware engineering. His leadership is anticipated to drive the company’s continued innovation and strategic initiatives as Apple further solidifies its position in the global tech industry.
