President Donald Trump is exuding confidence about a “very well” outcome from his high-stakes talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, set for Thursday in South Korea.
Speaking from Tokyo, Trump confirmed the “big meeting” at the APEC summit. “I think it’s going to work out very well, actually,” he stated.
This optimism comes amid a severe new escalation in the trade war. The US has threatened 100% tariffs on Chinese goods from November 1.
This was in response to China’s new controls on rare earth exports. The dispute has also seen new US port fees and Chinese countermeasures.
Trump, however, focused on the positive, calling the meeting “fantastic” and “great for everybody.”
This meeting is the capstone of his Asia visit, which he has used to discuss trade with world leaders and highlight America’s influence on the global economy.
