The potential for enhanced economic and defense collaboration between the United States and Türkiye could bolster industries such as nuclear energy and high technology, according to recent remarks by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Speaking at an event in New York celebrating a century of diplomatic ties, Erdoğan stressed that strengthening relations with the U.S. is crucial amid global conflicts and crises.
During the “100 Years of Friendship Gala,” Erdoğan underscored the positive outcomes of the cooperation between the two NATO allies, particularly in the Middle East. He emphasized the need to expand joint efforts in several key sectors, including liquefied natural gas and civil aviation, and advocated for the removal of barriers that hinder joint defense production.
Highlighting Türkiye’s burgeoning defense industry, Erdoğan noted a dramatic increase in annual defense exports, from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. He expressed optimism that Türkiye is on track to become one of the world’s top 10 defense exporters.
Erdoğan also invited U.S. investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, pointing to the country’s new incentives and a competitive investment framework. He announced a new investment initiative aimed at attracting foreign capital to further stimulate economic growth.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons, who also attended the event, acknowledged the deep economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations. He highlighted the importance of business partnerships and entrepreneurial ventures in strengthening the bilateral relationship.
