Revolutionary 100 V GaN Power Stages Enter Mass Production for Motor Drives

Date:

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has commenced mass production of its 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family, which includes the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111 models. These ePower™ Stage ICs are crafted for high-performance motion-control applications, integrating high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry into compact, thermally enhanced QFN packages. The devices can operate up to 100 V, with current ratings of either 35 A or 20 A, depending on the model, aiming to improve power density and efficiency while simplifying system design.

The product line boasts features such as fast fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss scenarios, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. Additionally, single-input PWM options are available for multi-axis motor-control applications. To support these new power-stage ICs, EPC is also introducing the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131 three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards. These platforms are equipped with gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, and temperature monitoring and protection functions.

Available through EPC’s extensive global distribution network, which includes Digi-Key and Mouser, these new devices are targeted at applications such as humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. The pricing for the EPC23108 and EPC23109 is set at US$3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are priced at US$2.47 each, based on orders of 3,000 units. The evaluation boards, EPC91128 and EPC91129, are priced at US$640 each, with the EPC91130 and EPC91131 available for US$630 each.

In conjunction with these new product launches, EPC is releasing a technical white paper available in both English and Chinese. This document will cover the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for the newly introduced integrated GaN power-stage ICs, providing crucial insights for potential users.
